Dear NCS Families,

Behavior

As we get closer to our final day before break - 12/20 - it is inevitable that students will be getting more and more excited for a lengthy time away from school. With that increased excitement and anticipation, self-control decreases and we tend to see more behavioral issues.  We have one more week to go and our goal is to keep teaching and learning.

As a reminder, students who continually disrupt the normal operation of a classroom may be given increased consequences by their teacher.  Here is a section from our handbook detailing some of the options that teachers may choose:

Disciplinary Options

  • Student/teacher conference

  • Parental contact

  • Classroom detention (loss of that day’s after-school activities)

  • Withdrawal of privileges within the classroom

  • Work detail consistent with infraction.

Please have conversations with your children about appropriate behavior and let them know that though the break is near, we all - parents and staff - still have the same expectations and standards for them.  On our end, we will continue to be proactive, consistent, fair, and supportive.

Best,

Adam Bullard

The Scholastic Book Fair has been at NCS all week, but due to the interruptions created by a two-hour delay and a no-school day, it will be extended. Our NPTO reports the book fair will be open to students on Monday and Tuesday mornings of next week (12/16-17) as well as before and after the Winter Concert, which has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19.

Students in kindergarten and first grade always have fun at recess. But when there's newly fallen snow, the sky's the limit!
