Dear NCS Families,
Now that the school year is well underway, students are diving into academics, and with that comes assessments. This month and continuing into October, students will be asked to participate in a wide range of assessments to help us learn more about them as learners. Some of these assessments are mandated at the state level, some at the district level, and some at the school and classroom level. Whatever the assessment, please know that these are all just snapshots in time. At NCS, we look at the whole child to describe growth and progress; assessments are but one measure. That said, we do communicate to students to try their best on these assessments so that we have the most accurate and honest snapshot. You can help them do their best by making sure they are getting enough sleep at night, providing a healthy breakfast, encouraging them to drink water during the day, and arriving at school on time. All of these habits contribute to their individual success and our overall school performance
If you’d like to learn more about the assessments that we conduct here at NCS, please feel free to reach out to me or your child’s classroom teacher.
Best,
Adam Bullard
Third graders held a meet and greet with their "Senior Buddies" last Friday. They will continue to spend time with their buddies monthly doing fun activities at both NCS and the Round Top Education Center, including cider pressing, learning about prehistoric relics and fossils, and flower pollination.
The soccer team had their first regular season game on Monday, hosting South Bristol. It was a very exciting game, ending in overtime. The Lions gave it all they had, with several amazing saves in goal, but unfortunately lost 6-5.
On Wednesday, the Lions were back in action against Vinalhaven in a 1:30 game.
It's always a great day when the Vikings come to visit, as it gives our students a chance to cheer on their classmates and enjoy a little extra fresh air.
Picture Day is coming up fast!!
