Dress Code Reminder (from family handbook)
At NCS, the dress code is in place to maintain student dignity and provide guidance that allows students to participate fully in ALL activities and experiences provided within our active learning environment. Appropriate student dress is primarily the responsibility of the student and parents. Staff members who determine that a student is in violation of the dress code will notify administration or another designated staff member to manage. The following guidelines will help to determine the appropriateness of a student’s apparel choices. This dress code applies to all students grades K-8:
No clothing should be worn to school that: advertises or promotes tobacco, alcohol or any illegal/illicit drugs; contains suggestive sexual messages, innuendoes; or promotes disrespectful or violent messages or statements that violate others’ civil rights.
Footwear must be worn at all times.
Clothing should not reveal midriff, cleavage, or undergarments/pajamas throughout normal daily activity. Undergarments must be worn under clothes.
The length of clothing (shorts, skirts, dresses, etc.) should not be above the ends of a student’s fingertips when standing with arms straight to their sides. NOTE: In cases where the student’s wingspan makes it challenging to find clothes that fit this standard, an inseam rule of 5 inches can be applied. Alternatively, spandex, lycra or equivalent shorts may be worn underneath.
Bottoms that have excessive tears above the knees must include a pair of shorts under them to maintain fidelity to the fingertip rule. (See fingertip rule above).
Tops should have a strap width of 2 inches.
Students should come to school dressed for the weather conditions and school related activities.
Students in all grades will be attending Physical Education classes twice/week and will need footwear and clothing recommended by the teacher.
Sunglasses and/or hats are not to be worn inside the school building.
Any item of clothing/accessory that has the potential to be used as a weapon is unacceptable at NCS.
Best,
Adam Bullard
The Kindergarten class earned their Lions Scooter Licenses today in Physical Education after participating in a scooter course to demonstrate how to be safe on their scooters which included sitting safely, keeping eyes forward, slowing down near obstacles, stopping at red lights, yielding to other scooters, stopping at crosswalks, going through the scooter wash, looking back when backing up and more. Mrs. York as their scooter instructor is very proud of them!
Poets in the making. First graders have been working hard to perfect the art of the haiku and tried their hand at making origami this week as they finished up their lesson on Japan.
We had a lot of smiling faces here at NCS last Friday. Local Masons came to visit and present 8 lucky students with new bikes as part of the Bikes for Books Program. Making a special appearance was puppy Peach Cannoli.
Speaking of smiling faces, our 6th-8th graders sure look like they had a great time checking out STEM FEST at The Owls Head Transportation Museum. Not only did they get to view exhibits with vintage automobiles, airplanes, and bicycles; they also were introduced to organizations from around the state who were there conducting demonstrations in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and its safe to say, NCS has the best of the best! Please join the NPTO in showing our administration, teachers and staff some love this Wednesday by providing them with a wonderful breakfast. Sign up to contribute by clicking the link below.
