Dear NCS Families,
Spring Assessments
Students will be asked to participate in another round of mandatory state assessments this month to help us learn more about them as learners. At NCS, we look at the whole child to describe growth and progress and these assessments are but one measure. That said, we communicate to students to do their best so that we have the most accurate snapshot of them as learners. To help them do their best, please make sure students are getting enough sleep, eating a healthy breakfast, drinking water, and arriving at school on time.
Spring Field Trips
As the weather improves, there are typically a wide range of field trips that students engage in at NCS. When these trips are not directly related to a unit of study, we often set behavior and attendance expectations for students to participate. If a student does not meet the communicated expectations, we may keep them off the trip and instead work on their regular assignments at school. Our goal is to always have every student on these trips because we believe strongly in providing meaningful experiences for them, however, we try to balance that with a commitment to academic expectations and behavioral norms.
Best,
Adam Bullard
Spring is in the air and we've got smiles on our faces!
5th graders spent some time at Coastal Rivers Nature Center this week. Students enjoyed comparing salt and fresh water marsh habitats and observing the microscopic life of both bodies of water. Time was also spent identifying adaptations of aquatic invertebrates and other critters.
7th graders have been working with the Waldo Theatre to turn parts of their Civil War soldier narrative for ELA into a monologue. This morning students performed their monologues in front of their classmates. Kudos to everyone for doing such a great job writing and performing!
Spring sports are in full swing and off to a great start, with our baseball and softball teams hosting their first home games of the season last night. If you are looking for a fun afterschool activity, these teams are sure to provide you with some entertainment. Be sure to check out the upcoming events below and on our website for game dates and start times.
