Dear NCS Families,

In our ever-evolving digital landscape, it becomes increasingly important to address the potential risks associated with the use of cell phones and social media, especially when it comes to our young learners in grades K-8.

While these technological tools offer numerous benefits, it's crucial to recognize the potential dangers that can impact our children. Cyberbullying, exposure to inappropriate content, and other safety issues are real concerns that require our collective attention.

Moreover, I want to draw attention to a growing concern that intertwines with our students' digital engagement — a decrease in reading and math scores worldwide that existed before the pandemic. As our children spend more time on screens, it's essential to balance their online activities with dedicated time for reading and other educational activities.  Encouraging offline activities will positively impact their academic development.

As caregivers, we play a pivotal role in guiding our children's digital experiences. Establishing open communication about their online activities, educating them on responsible device usage, setting age-appropriate boundaries, and emphasizing the importance of their growth as readers, writers and mathematicians are essential steps in ensuring their overall well-being and academic success.

By working together, we can create a safe and positive environment for our young learners both online and offline.

Regards,

Adam Bullard
