Dear NCS Families,
A Meaningful Experience at Nobleboro Central School
Whether it is going on a field trip, participating in a club, competing in a sport, or expressing their artistic side, at NCS we believe that providing students with meaningful experiences helps them grow into confident, connected and successful adults. Another area that our school provides opportunities for meaningful experiences is through shared community events and traditions.
There was no greater display of the power of community and tradition than last Friday’s Thanksgiving Feast. This event brought nearly one hundred parents and family members of K-4 students into the gym for a traditional sit-down dinner. The feast was made possible by the heroic cooking efforts of our kitchen staff and logistical and financial support from local organizations, businesses, teachers and building staff.
It should be noted that a key element to the success of this event was the work of our middle level students. Without their toil, we would not have been able to pull off an event of this scale. Many may ask, “how do you get teenagers to happily lug tables, serve peas, deliver pies, and greet guests with a smile?” The answer is simple: These older students remember what it was like to be a younger student and they have been raised in a K-8 school that teaches and expects community service and empathy. They do their part because that is just how things are done here.
In closing, I am extremely thankful that we were able to bring back the Thanksgiving Feast because it was - and will be in the future - a powerful experience that builds community and meaning for all of us at NCS.
Best,
Adam Bullard
Our students have been talking all things turkey and learning about gratitude.
Ms. Holloway's second grade created a beautiful fall tree with the leaves representing all the things they were thankful for.
While Ms. K-B's class filled their gratitude jars
Ms. Henry's class discussed their family's holiday traditions
And Kindergartners created turkeys using fun shapes
Ms. Courand's fourth-grade class worked long and hard constructing wigwams, after learning how the people of the Wabanaki tribe lived.
